I posted on Monday about a new feature I was going to have on the blog called Magazine Mondays where I would blog about a recipe that I had wanted to try from any of the food magazines I read. I had only planned it as a way of trying to get through all those recipes I had been meaning to try and to also to unfold some of the corners in my magazines, however there were a few comments from people saying they'd like to do the same. It got me thinking there must be a blog event in this. I know I had mentioned about plans for a new blog event but this isn't it... I'll put that one on the backburner for now and announce this one to you.
Introducing.......
.....where anyone from anywhere can blog about a recipe they had bookmarked from a cook book, food magazine, food blog, food website, from TV etc, make it and submit it to a weekly roundup.
To take part here's what you do.......
1. Pick a recipe from a book/magazine/blog/website/tv show and make it. (Note you can only submit 1 recipe per week)
2. Blog about it
- include where you got the recipe in your blog post (including a link to their website if possible)
- include a link to this post or this blog in your blog post
- include the logo (see above) for Bookmarked Recipes in your blog post
- include a photo of your recreation on your blog post
3. Email bookmarkedrecipes[AT]gmail[DOT]com with the following information:
- Your name and where you're from
- The name of your blog
- The permalink for your entry
- A photo of your entry
- A note of where you got your recipe from
Every Monday I will post a round up of all the entries here on my blog for everyone to see and share and maybe even try for themselves! I can't wait to see what everyone does!
I'll keep this going for about 2 months and then review whether to keep it going or not.
UPDATE 23/1/09 Check out the Bookmarked Recipes Blog where the event is now being held
Here's another way to unfold those corners: just rip the pages out.
ReplyDeleteI spent years collecting stacks of magazines with articles I wanted to read and recipes I wanted to try. And there would usually be no more than three or four pages in the whole mag that I cared about.
I think it's the years of grade school being taught to be careful with our books, but it was so hard to just rip the pages out.
I finally took the advice of all the efficiency gurus to only handle paper once. So now the first time through a magazine, if I want to keep anything I yank the pages and throw them in a folder and the mag in the trash.
I've got the folder next to my keyboard right now, with probably 40 or 50 recipes in it. It's getting to the point I need a filing system for loose magazine pages. :-/
Great idea Ruth!
ReplyDeleteRuth, this is a great idea!
ReplyDeleteVery good idea as we all have "bookmarked" recipes galore!
ReplyDeleteI do the same as drew except I don't have any of them pasted (it's a complete mess). I'm sure I can contribute, maybe not on a weekly basis, but I'll have something for ya for sure :)
ReplyDeleteOh, good idea. I may join in where I can as I have some ripped out magazine pages. I do the same as drew kime (ripping the pages out). Hope you're throwing the mags in the recycling and not the trash ;) (urgh, how hoity-toity does that sound!)
ReplyDeleteWow excelent theme.
ReplyDeleteCount me in
Pixie, your'e giving me too much credit. I'm not pasting anything, just stuffing them in a Trapper folder I stole from my daughter. :-)
ReplyDeleteI love reading your blog!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I have just tagged you for a meme! Check out my blog post to find out what the scoop is!
Good idea Drew.... but I'm a nerd and need to know what issues things are in and it helps in knowing what's seasonal etc too. You're also right in that the "being taught to be careful with our books" has had an effect.
ReplyDeleteHey Dell, can't wait to see what you submit.
Thanks Toontz, hope you can take part.
Thank you Elle! Hope you can take part sometime.
Tell me about it Lisarene! I'm coming down with bookmarked recipes!
Hey Pixie, I'm not expecting anyone to participate EVERY week... that's quite a demand and a big commitment! Really hope you join in when you can though.
Hey Miss Bliss! Thanks for visiting my blog. I must sound "hoity toity" too.... I'm forever telling my hubby to recycle too!

Hi dear i just sent u my entry to the event. Please check it out.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kitchen Flavours, got it.
ReplyDeleteHi Ruth...got wind of this event only just now...is it still on? I think its a wonderful idea.
ReplyDeleteI would love to join in! I have stacks of recipes that I've been meaning to try + lots of websites that I've been saving, too.
ReplyDeleteI'm in too! I've actually already been doing this. I recently went through all my saved recipes (haven't tackled the bookmarks yet) and sorted them all out. I gave each one their own pages, pasting them onto three holed lined paper, and put them all in a binder. After I've tried it and liked it, I either put a sticker or draw a star in the upper corner. i've tried so many new recipes in the last two months my family doesn't know what hit them. LOL! So this is totally up my alley!
ReplyDeleteI didn't see that there's a theme each week or anything. Do we just submit whatever recipe we want? I'll reread the rules again, but if I missed a post somewhere can you please direct me?
Thanks and great idea!
that's a fantastic idea !
